Seeds or bubbles? Investing in the future of Aotearoa New Zealand

BY The Policy Observatory

Money is moving in, out and around New Zealand, governed by people’s spending and investment choices. But how do investment decisions shape the world we live in? And how can we ensure that our investments sow the seeds of future prosperity, rather than blow financial bubbles in markets like land and housing?

On 20th July 2017, The Policy Observatory hosted a panel discussion on the future of investment at AUT. Chaired by business journalist and AUT Adjunct Professor Rod Oram, the panel featured:

  • Sir Stephen Tindall, founder of The Warehouse and pioneering investor through The Tindall Foundation and K1W1;
  • Rangimarie Hunia, the CE of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei's social investment branch, Whai Maia;
  • Joshua Vial, founder of social enterprise collective, Enspiral;
  • Mary Quin, former head of Callaghan Innovation and board member of Westpac NZ.

Video from the event is below, which includes the full session and extracts from the event.
